OUR EXPERTISE

A craftsmanship

Jean-Yves is committed to offering each of his customers with craftsmanship through each of his achievements.

To ensure the quality and uniqueness of our knives, we focus on hand-made. Some knives can take up to 40 hours of manual work and they follow a rigorous preparation process that we want to share with you.

1. Design and Cutting

This phase consists in the realization of the drawing and the cutting of a knife on a piece of Plexiglas. This pattern will be used for adjustments. For a folding knife, the pattern will also be use to calculate the position of the axis, the end stop and the finalization of the spring. For a fixed knife, this operation is used to ensure that all the proportions of the knife are respected. Finally, pattern markings will be transfered to a piece of metal to be able to cut the edges.
2. Grinding and Chiselling
Grinding consists in removing layers of an element by rubbing it, in order for instance to get a thin blade to the cutting edge. Chiseling, also called "Guillochage", consists of carving some parts, like the spring and the plates, using a chisel or files.
3. Heat Treatment and Annealing
Once all previous steps have been completed, a thermal treatment of the blade and the spring is performed in order to harden the parts.

4. Finishing: Assembly and Adjustment

For a folding knife, preparation and adjustment of metal parts: the blade, spring, miters and plates. The knife is then adjusted to the opened and closed position to ensure a proper movement. It must also be checked that the wire is not in contact with the spring when closing it,which guarantees the longevity of the blade's edge.

For fixed knives, first there is the adjustment, drilling and preparation for sticking the handle. Then, there is the positioning of the guard or the miter. Finally, and after drying, the handle and all other metal parts are polished.

In both cases, once all these steps have been completed, the knife is then sharpened and checked. The blade numbered and everything cleaned. The knife can then be delivered.
